Gourmand Travel Picnic Grove 2024

After six years, I was able to visit Picnic Grove again in Tagaytay! My last visit to Picnic Grove was in 2018. I did travel to Tagaytay in September 2022, but I was only around Twin Lakes and Ginger Bread Nature Park in Alfonso.

So what are the changes in six years?

The entrance fee increased from Php50.00 to Php75.00 for adults. I do not remember Picnic Grove having a Ferris Wheel and Skywalk/View Deck back in 2018 so these two seem to be the added attractions here. There are also added restaurants in the place near the entrance area.

Here's my specific travel guide to Picnic Grove if you need one:

1. We alighted from the MRT (Taft Avenue - last station) in Pasay. From the exit area, we headed downstairs to Chowking, then walked a bit towards the bus terminal and hopped on a bus going to Alfonso, Cavite. Fare: Php120.00 for each person (Tagaytay Olivarez). We departed Pasay at 8:00 in the morning.

2. We arrived at Tagayay Olivarez (near Fora Mall) at 10:45 in the morning. Then hired a tricycle for Picnic Grove. This tricycle has a maximum capacity of three. Fare: Php100.00 But even if you are only one or two, you still need to pay Php100.00. Travel time is around 25 minutes.

3. Exploring Picnic Grove! Entrance fee: Php75.00 for each adult. We proceeded directly to the Eco Trail. It's situated in the wooded area of the park. It's a long path of ups and downs so you need to wear comfortable shoes and outfits to get around. Bring water because it's a long walk! Eco Trail has no entrance fee.

4. After Eco Trail, we climb to the View Deck or Sky Walk. It's a chill area where you can see the relaxing view of the Tagaytay vista and the Taal Lake. There are "pasalubong" shops upstairs and cafes.

5. Then we went downstairs to take our lunch. We dined at Alamat Restaurant because my siblings wanted "bulalo", which is a specialty in Tagaytay. We spent Php2,095.00 for our lunch at this restaurant.

6. After Picnic Grove, we headed to People's Park in the Sky. We hired a tricycle again and paid Php100.00 for the ride. There's a jeepney going there but rare so we just hired a tricycle.

I am not enthusiastic to be in this place. The first time I visited this landmark was in 2014 and vowed to never visit again haha! Because the commute going there is punishing if you are not in a private car. And besides, there's nothing there to capture interest except going upstairs to see the view of the entire Cavite mountain landscape.

The entrance fee at People's Park in the Sky is Php30.00. However, the area had no improvement since my last visit in 2014. There's nothing to amuse the visitors. Although the place is clean, the area has no other amenities. It is simply a building ruin.

7. After a few minutes, we left the place, and as expected we had a hard time looking for a tricycle around the People's Park in the Sky. So we decided to walk a few miles to the entrance area to find one. The tricycle we got only brought us to the jeepney terminal. This jeepney ride took us back to the Olivarez Rotunda for our bus ride back to Metro Manila. Jeepney fare: Php25.00.

8. At 3:30PM we left Tagaytay.

The weather in Tagaytay during our visit on September 8, 2024, was extremely hot! I was surprised by the atmosphere there because in the past, even during summer and sunny days, the weather in Tagaytay was cool and comfortable but recently, it's getting warmer and nasty. It's still a lovely place to visit anyway, especially if you are in Metro Manila and you are looking for a place to chill during the weekend.
